...Mofopefoluwa Reflects on Learning, Growth and Purpose. In the capital market, the first 100 days after a listing tell you a lot about a stock: how it trades, how it handles volatility, and whether the market believes in its fundamentals. The same is true of a new hire. The first 100 days set the tone for the journey ahead, full of new experiences, fresh perspectives, and opportunities to grow while making meaningful contributions. For Mofopefoluwa Alabi, "listing" at Nigerian Exchange Group has been exactly that: a debut marked by continuous learning, collaboration, and purpose at the very heart of Nigeria's capital market. As she crosses her first 100-day milestone, she reflects on the lessons and experiences that have shaped her journey so far. Spoiler: the fundamentals are strong, and the outlook is decidedly bullish. How would you describe your first 100 days at Nigerian Exchange Group? My first 100 days at NGX Group have been an exciting blend of learning, challenge and professional growth. Joining during the extension of trading hours and the transition to the T+1 settlement cycle made the experience particularly unique, I essentially arrived just as the market was picking up pace, and I had to match its speed. Adapting to the responsibilities of market surveillance came with a steep learning curve, steeper than any yield curve I had studied in Accounting, but the support and guidance of my colleagues made the climb much easier. These first 100 days have sharpened my analytical skills, deepened my understanding of the capital market, and reinforced my passion for protecting the integrity and growth of Nigeria's financial markets. What has been the biggest challenge you have faced at NGX Group, and how did you approach it? One of my biggest challenges was learning the language of the capital market. While I was familiar with general financial concepts, market surveillance introduced me to technical terms and industry-specific concepts that were entirely new to me. At times, it genuinely felt like learning a new language, one where the vocabulary changes with every trading session. Rather than feeling overwhelmed, I treated it like any good analyst treats an unfamiliar stock: I did my due diligence. I asked questions, took notes, and learnt continuously from colleagues who were always generous with their knowledge. One thing I have realised is that in this market, learning never closes. There is no closing gong on curiosity, the capital market is constantly evolving, and staying inquisitive is essential to growing in this role. What achievement are you most proud of during your first 100 days? How quickly my confidence appreciated in value. Within a short period, I moved from observing to independently analysing trading activities, preparing reports, and contributing meaningfully to the team's surveillance processes. In surveillance, we are essentially the market's watchdogs, the quiet guarantors of a fair and orderly market. Knowing that my work supports market integrity and helps sustain investor confidence gives me a strong sense of purpose. It has been incredibly fulfilling to watch my own growth chart trend steadily upward. What advice would you give to someone joining NGX Group today? Stay curious and diversify your learning portfolio. NGX Group is an organisation where growth comes from asking questions, staying open to new ideas, and collaborating with the people around you. Your colleagues are blue-chip assets, reliable, generous with dividends of knowledge, and always worth investing time in. Never hesitate to seek guidance or learn from their experience. If you approach every day with a willingness to learn, adapt, and contribute, your professional growth will outperform your own projections. Outside work, what's something colleagues might be surprised to learn about you? I am passionate about financial literacy, particularly helping young people make informed financial decisions. Think of it as early-stage investing, except the asset class is people. Through school engagements, community outreach, training programmes, and mentorship, I enjoy equipping young adults with the knowledge they need to build healthy financial habits and secure their financial futures. Seeing the compounding effect of those conversations is one of the most rewarding things I do outside work. Working remotely or working from the office? Working remotely! Lagos traffic has more volatility than any index I monitor, so I certainly appreciate the flexibility that remote work offers. That said, there is something special about being in the office, the collaboration, the exchange of ideas, and the connection with colleagues make every day worthwhile. Call it a balanced portfolio: a healthy allocation to both. Complete this sentence: My first 100 days at NGX Group have taught me that... "…every detail matters. Stay curious, keep your mind sharp and never stop learning." Looking Ahead The first 100 days are an important milestone, but in market terms, this is only the opening session. For Mofopefoluwa, the journey ahead is one of continued learning, professional development, and meaningful impact within an organisation committed to strengthening Nigeria's capital market. If early trading is any indication, this is one growth story worth watching. Now it is your turn. Tell us about your journey by exploring the "Pitch Yourself" section below.
